Bolivia produces a tiny amount of coffee compared to other countries in South America. In the 1900's and 2000's, foreign aid funded coffee washing stations & training programs on harvesting, drying, selecting beans, preventing fermentation and maintaining quality.
CORACA CRA was established in 1990 in the region of Carrasco La Reserva, about 20 km from the town of Carnavi. Made up of 60 smallholder farmer families averaging about 3 hectares each, the cooperative produces about 6-8 containers of FairTrade and Organic certified coffee a year.
While Bolivia may not be as familiar as its well known neighbours Brazil and Peru, Bolivian coffee is elegant, flavourful, and sweet and makes for a delicious everyday cup - and is not to be overlooked.
